House Cleaning Materials Caused Asthma Risk Children

Exposure of pregnant women with household cleaners such as disinfectants, bleach, liquid window cleaner and so on, will make the fetus at risk for wheezing settled when the age of childhood.

Children born to families who use the most materials, the risk doubled to experience wheezing, compared with children who come from families who used the least.

Wheezing is the sound that comes about when a person breathes, which is caused by the narrowing of the breathing tract. Wheezing can be a sign that can develop into asthma.

This research was conducted on about 14,000 children from 7,019 families. Pregnant women of the family will be asked how often they used cleaning materials in the home such as disinfectants (87.4%), bleach (84.8%), carpet cleaning (35.5%), air fresheners (68% ), window cleaners (60.5%), paint / varnish (32.9%), Pesticides / insecticides (21.2%).

The researchers performed calculations of total chemicals used every family, how often they use, and then compared with maternal reports of the existence of wheezing in their children. The children were followed until the age of 3.5 years and 432 children (6.2%) experienced wheezing in infancy settled.

The more often ingredients of household cleaners are used, the higher the risk of these children experienced wheezing settled. While, parental smoking, and family history of asthma in damp houses have also been taken into account. Previous research, also supports this.

Although this study does not conclude that the household materials that can cause a child to suffer from asthma, but it has shown that there is a relationship between the two. And need to be aware that exposure occurs during fetal in utero, although it was only in the form of exposure to the air, the risk of causing disturbances in the lungs of children in the future.
